I look forward to sharing with you my passion for good books.
AVAILABLE PROGRAMS: BEHIND THE BOOK: A JOURNEY FROM CONCEPT TO BOOKSHELF. This program explores the publishing process, focusing on the collaboration, research, writing, and revision needed to match text and photos, and takes a look at the roles of the editor and publishing team in the creation of B is for Berkshires. An exciting PowerPoint presentation filled with photos and concrete examples. FOR SCHOOL VISITS (Grades K-5): Each presentation is 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the age of the students. The focus of each presentation is tailored to meet the needs of the classroom, and will include time for questions and answers. FOR LIBRARIES, SENIOR CENTERS, OR OTHER GROUPS: A 60 minute program tailored to an adult or mixed-age family audience to give a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process and publishing industry. Discover what makes editors today sit up and shout, “I need this book!” B IS FOR BOOK. Learn about the creative process as we explore design options and the parts of a book, from front matter to back matter, using a variety of published mentor texts. We’ll brainstorm as I share tips for students to create their own unique picture books. A tips handout and blank books will be provided for students to start their own masterpieces. An interactive program, best suited for small groups. FOR SCHOOL VISITS (Grades 2 – 5): 60 – 90 minutes. Discover new layers to favorite books as we learn how to read not just the words, but the pictures. Gain an understanding of design choices made from cover to cover. Time will vary based on the age of the students and time allotted for independent writing after our brainstorming session. FOR LIBRARIES, SENIOR CENTERS, OR OTHER GROUPS: 60 – 90 minutes. Appropriate for adults or a mixed-age family audience, ages 7 and up.
